Dear OGKMA Member,
Greetings to all the fellow alumni of Osmania, Gandhi and Kakatiya medical
colleges. I thank you all for giving me this opportunity to serve as President
of our association. As you all might know, our association was started in the
year 1980 with only a few members from the batches of 1959 to 1963. Now it is
close to 4000 in strength. We constitute the largest alumni organization of
AAPI. I congratulate all the past presidents and Board of Trustees for their
hard work and dedication to bring the organization to a commendable position as
it is today.
The mission of the association is to bring together
the graduates of Osmania, Gandhi and Kakatiya medical colleges and to function
as a charitable, educational and cultural organization that allow members to
share common ideas and share concerns. During the president ship of people like
Jagan Ailinani (2002-03), Vijayalakshmi Appareddy (2003-04), Ravinder Surakanti
(2004-05) and Gopal Gade (2005-06) the activities took a faster pace, the
information was once again put together and a very comprehensive directory was
published in 2003. Under the leadership of Dr. Santhosh Cheela (2006-07), there
was a successful name change from Osmania University Medical Alumni of America
(OUMA) to Osmania Gandhi Kakatiya Medical Alumni Association of America (OGKMA)
which is more appropriate after the creation of University of Health Sciences.
We also successfully launched our website
www.ogkma.org which received great recognition from various circles. It
had gone through different phases of development and took the shape of what it
is today. Updates and improvements to the website are being made on a regular
basis.
We have been involved in various educational,
community and social activities. Those include sending Journals to the medical
college libraries and creation and maintenance of the e-libraries. The medical
students, postgraduates, professors and principals are all very appreciative of
the services provided by these libraries. The maintenance cost is about $10,000
per year which is being supported by generous donations from our alumni. We are
also conducting ACLS and BLS classes for the medical students in all three
medical colleges which is another way of improving the educational standard of
our alma mater. Gandhi Alumni Education Center was built with a record amount
of donations and I congratulate the whole team who worked day and night to make
it a reality. As many of you have already noticed, the OMC library is in a
dilapidated condition and we have taken up the project of renovating it with
the alumni donations. We also have taken up the project of Kakatiya Golden
Jubilee Alumni Center with large donations from people like Hanimireddy
Lakireddy (1960 KMC) of Merced, CA
The Atlanta Annual Meeting from October 5th-7th was a
grand success under the organizational skills of Dr. P.B. Rao (1972 OMC) of
Macon, GA. The highlight of the Saturday Evening Dinner Banquet was the
presentation by our chief guest, Dr. S.V. Mahadevan from Stanford University,
who is spearheading the Emergency Medical Response project (EMRI) "DIAL 108" in
Andhra Pradesh. His lecture stimulated all our alumni and showed us to what
extent we can achieve our goals of improving the educational and health
standards of people in Andhra Pradesh and India, in spite of the complex
social, economic and political infrastructure.
I encourage each and every one of you to actively
participate in our noble projects and spend a piece of your time and earnings
to improve the education and research of our alma mater and the health care
standards of our people. Please make your tax deductible donations to the
charitable foundation
